Yeah, the line opened on 2/1/1917 as an IRT route, with at first subway trains between Grand Central and Ditmars Avenue above 2nd Avenue (at it was known at the time).-William A. Padron ["QBP"] |

Before the joint BMT/IRT services in 1923, didn't the 2nd Ave el run on the Astoria Line, while the future #7 Line ran out to Alburtis Ave? |

The 2nd Avenue el came in on 7/23/1917, and had the Astoria route for themselves at first. Thus, it forced the IRT subway trains to head out to Alburtis Avenue-Corona solely [it opened on 4/21/1917].-William A. Padron ["104"] |

The Astoria Line was originally an IRT line that the BMT had trackage rights on. That’s why Ditmars and Beebe were both US&S. In fact, even though the BMT got the Astoria Line exclusively in 1949, signal maintenance was done by IRT personnel as late as 1967 when I became Tw/M there. While the IRT as a private company used US&S equipment exclusively, the BMT had a few US&S interlockings in various places like Kings Hwy/Brighton, Marcy, and Fresh Pond just to name a few. |

I don’t think there are any air compressors since unlike the old signals and switches, the new ones are all electric. If anything is put there it may be either a relay room or a signal maintainer’s board. |

The interlockings themselves receive new all-electric components, but the automatics along the line itself are still air-powered US&S stop arms. Hence, all of the towers along the Flushing Line still stand. |

There's a major switch replacement project for the Ditmars Boulevard interlocking beginning soon. A crane will be stationed there, and the tower was in the way. |
