Yes I do remember St. Elsewhere and the opening shot of the el.The day of closure of the north section, I hadn't realized it was coming up that close until someone mentioned it downtown. I turned around, took the Green Line back to my apartment, way out by Cleveland Circle reservoir, grabbed my camera went back in town to ride the north section. Had one roll of b & w print film, took maybe about 15-20 photos, it was sleeting that day, so drops were on the RFW. Included was a photo of the closure notice at North Station, and both North station platforms for Orange & Green Lines (latter shots included PCC's), both of which have been gone for years. For south section, knew in advance; went on BSR Assoc. fantrip week before closure; over the next week or so, took somewhere around 250 plus slides of the south section, from street=, platform, & train views. Went back during and after razing & took several more photos/ slides. |

Watch at around 1:10; you can see an Orange Line El passing "St. Elsewhere," which was actually the Franklin Square House Apartments. |

They are... packed away with everything else in my storage unit.At some point in the future, if I can figure out a way to scan the b & W prints, I'll see if it's po0ssible to post them here. Same with slides if that's possible. And, would like to submit images to nycsubway.org |

But photos/ slides are in my storgae unit, and they are inaccessible right now. The room is packed to the gills - like the inside of an Allied moving van. |

Find them and send them to Dave, Uncle Larry, or someone else here, so they can be enjoyed by all of us, including yourself. They are not doing anyone any good rotting away in storage, are they? Please don't be yet another hoarder who chooses not to share his collection! |

H-m-m-m-m.... am I getting some reaons to get motivated? :)Your wanting to see my pictures 'immediately' I take as a compliment (before they're even viewed on Subchat) - I really appreciate that. I would never choose not to share my collelction, I like showing my rail pictures to others, not meant conceitedly, just that it's cool to see others enjoy them. Leave others to be hoarders with the attitude of "look what I got and you ain't got it." That isn't me. As I was writing about the b & w photos in the other post, I was feeling frustrated, going "oh s---t, which ---king box are they in and can I get to it?" Tunnelrat did get to see my slides years back (Long before they were packed away) - Cupcakes cooked a good dinner that night too! I'm very frustrated that they may be a little tough to get to - medium size boxes from Home Depot, stacked over twelve high each one heavily packed up - and their are many stacks. I used every last bit of space. When I put the stuff in storage, didn't know where I was going to be living, just had to plan on getting out of the apt. asap, and get the stuff safely stowed. Was leaving former family's apt. - had a lot more than just my stuff. I tell people now, that I'm the family homestead. Probably others on the board know what I'm talking about. Living in a place now , for me that is 'long-term' temporary, so I'd rather not bring everything here and settle in. Long story for another time. So, not really all excuses. I'll see if I can find the box or two that holds these photos. |
