Back in 1977, when Len Deighton wrote SS-GB, an alternate-history story in which the Nazis win the Battle of Britain, the book, complete with the "SS-GB" swastika emblem on the cover, was prominently advertised all over the subway system. Nobody said boo, IIRC.Ditto the HBO adaptation of Fatherland, another alternate-history story where Germany wins WWII. That ad had a swastika, too, but nobody complained. Times, however, have changed, and it's at least good to see that people are historically aware. |

If there is any blame to be laid, its at the feet of the MTA, which had to agree to the wrapping.That being said, I don't find it offensive. Amazon had the good sense to remove the swastikas from the American flags and replace them with what look like Iron Crosses. But there are a lot of Holocaust survivors still alive in NY and I wouldn't be surprised if they were offended. My 83 year old uncle is an Auschwitz survivor and if he saw this, he'd blow his top. |

By the way, the NY Post’s headline about the wrap refers to it as the “SS Train.” Back when double letters were still used to label trains, the shuttle was shown on the maps as the “SS." |
