Hi, gang!

On Tuesday and Wednesday, October 13/14, I was in Blackpool, England to see the annual Tour Of Illuminations. This event occurs every Fall between the beginning of September up until the first week of November. Quite a show!

One of the Illuminated trams is the "Steam Train" (733/734). For a premium fare, one can board at Pleasure Beach and ride up to Little Bispham and beck. On the way back, stops are made anywhere that the heritage trams stop. This view is at Pleasure Beach.

A special and unexpected treat was the run of open-top Balloon 706, the "Princess Alice", on Wednesday. 706 is stopped at Cabin, one of the heritage tram stops (heritage trams, except for widened Balloons, can't stop at a normal light rail stop because of different platform heights). This was a lovely, breezy ride! It also afforded me the opportunity of taking pictures from the top deck, without the window glare. Also, the hiss of the trolley wheel on the wire made the ride a lot more spectacular and musical!

A regular-service Bombardier Flexity tram, on a short-turn service to Bispham, approaches Lowther Avenue, the beginning of the special Illuminations displays.

One of the displays. This one was Alice In Wonderland.

More soon! Hope you enjoyed. Comments welcome.

Thanks, Dave! Blackpool was a lot of fun. Now I'm in Milan, where many Milan trams await my pleasure of riding.

Like this one, passing La Scala Opera House in 2008.

Or this one, at Market and Drumm in San Francisco in 2012.

Milantram (I'm not called that for nothin! What am I, chopped liver?)

Milan is the city renowned for veal chops. Locals argue for hours over the merits of bone-in vs. boneless. If you're interested, let me know and I'll post the names of several restaurants known for their Coteletta alla Milanese.

For pizza, I liked Maruzzela at Porto Venezia. I don't remember if the #1 Trams went by there or turned just short of there. I guess I'll have to go back to find out. I have a lot of business contacts there, and I need to visit them ;)

I saw the Peter Witt in SF when I was there recently, but I didn't get to ride it. Over the weekend I was there they had limited electric service, but the PCCs were running. All of the trolley bus routes were run with diesel buses. And I'll have to say, the driver was going really fast down those hills, and then slamming the brakes at the stops on the one bus I took.
