Joliet Union Station has always been a favorite train-watching spot for Chicago-area railfans. In pre-Amtrak years I'd often go out on a Saturday-morning Rock Island commuter train, and return to Chicago later in the day on the San Francisco Chief or one of the GM&O intercity trains. But the classic 1912 station building has not been used as a train station since September 2014. Amtrak and Metra are now both in separat) temporary facilities, with a new station under construction across the tracks, in the southwest quadrant. It's expected to open next year. http://www.theherald-news.com/20 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joliet_Union_Station https://www.facebook.com/Joliet-Gateway-Center-291619564361283/timeline/ http://www.blackhawknrhs.org/joliet_future.htm Alan Follett Hercules, CA |
