Sept 8: protect equipment for Texas Eagle at Fort Worth

Train 22 Texas Eagle from San Antonio terminated at Fort Worth because of the Union Pacific cornfield meet near Texarkana blocking the route north, resulting in a stinkbuggybridge between Fort Worth and Little Rock.

Real nice, Bob. The Joilet station is a peach. Why two engines pulling 22? Amtrak usually uses only one.

I don't know, Dave. Maybe to pick up time from the late arriving buses. We left Little Rock at 1 AM, scheduled departure 11:39 PM.

Joliet Union Station has always been a favorite train-watching spot for Chicago-area railfans. In pre-Amtrak years I'd often go out on a Saturday-morning Rock Island commuter train, and return to Chicago later in the day on the San Francisco Chief or one of the GM&O intercity trains.

But the classic 1912 station building has not been used as a train station since September 2014. Amtrak and Metra are now both in separat) temporary facilities, with a new station under construction across the tracks, in the southwest quadrant. It's expected to open next year.

May have been repositioning the second engine or taking it to Chicago for servicing.
