Posted by milantram on Mon Aug 31 20:48:56 2015 In the first part, I covered the vintage car pullout.P:art 2 concentrates on the area around CTC/Arena Station--Trade Street Stub, Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte Transit Center. These wet NOT taken when rain was falling (however, the street may be wet). Pics taken in the rain will be presented in a later part.  Gomaco 92 at the Trade Street Stub, at Lynx CTC/Arena Station and between Time Warner Cable Arena, where th Hornets play, and the Charlotte Transportation Center. Cars lay over here between trips. The colorful pylons outside the Arena are a prominent feature.  Car 91's at the Trade Street Stub. An outbound Lynx train's in the station. The tracks flanking the streetcar will be extended up Trade Street and westward about 3.5 miles to Rosa Parks Center. If the politicians stop squabbling, and approx. $123 million funding falls into place, construction will begin in 2016 and the line will open in 2019.  Looking eastward.  In the meantime, one of those fake trolleys passes by. These serve West Trade and beyond. When CityLynx gets extended, these will become redundant. A regular bus follows.  Looking into the bowels of Charlotte Transportation Center, from CTC/Arena Lynx Station.  And east along East Trade Street.  Both forms of Charlotte electric rail transit are represented here. On the right, Lynx Blue Line train headed by Siemens S70 104 arrives inbound. On the left, new CityLynx line with Gomaco replica double-truck Birney 92 is in front of the Charlotte Transportation Center bus station.  Car 91 leaves the stub track and will pull up to the outbound CTC/Arena stop.  91 is discharging passengers at the inbound CTC/Arena stop. Ridership is over 1500 a weekday.  A passenger uses the wheelchair lift.  Artwork adorns all CityLynx Streetcar stop shelters. This one's at CTC/Arena stop. The same artwork is used at both inbound and outbound platforms. Service on Charlotte's original streetcar system ended in 1939.  One last look before we take a ride. All of these photos were taken August 19 and 20, 2015. Hope you enjoyed this set!
