They're all PDF maps, looks like perhaps you don't have a working PDF plugin for your browser. Works fine in KNOS.

Maybe the plugin has been neutered and needs an update. In KNOS, the browser opens PDF's in a separate viewer that just pops up. I have this thing about Adobe products running in browsers, but it's seamless.

Adobe plugin? Not really sure. In KNOS, we use "Evince" for the PDF viewer and that works with the thumbwheel to zoom and you just hold the left key on the rodent and scroll around.

I could swear that the 63rd Drive exit was almost at the west end of the Manhattan-bound platform. The map shows the station box extending half a block west. Granted I haven't been there since 1988, but I don't think my memory has faded that much.

You are correct: the western exits at 63 Dr are at the west end of the platforms. In general, the station boxes seem to be drawn too long, possibly because they're also drawn too wide, so to keep them in some proportion, they're exaggerated. But the important thing is that the exits are correctly positioned vis-à-vis the street corners.

The 63 Dr platforms, like a few other IND platforms (169 St (F)) are shorter than a 10-car train, and the 10-car marker is actually past the station platform and is in the tunnel. Why these few stations were built too short is a mystery to me; there is no structural reason why they couldn't have been built full-length.

The person who updated these maps didn't do the best of jobs.

I've found over a dozen mistakes on the Ridgewood Map alone.

The Ridgewood Theater (not Cinema #1) has been closed for years and is being gutted for an apartment building but is still listed (#2)

Post offices are all wrong

The Ridgewood Post office is not on Cypress Avenue, it's at Myrtle and Decatur.

The "Glendale post office" shown is a "Finance branch". Glendale shares 11385 with Ridgewood. The post office is also on the next block, next door to the famed Zum Stammtisch german restaurant.

And if the Glendale branch gets shown, why are they leaving out the branch on Woodbine Street of Fresh Pond?

Schools & Churches

St. Aloysius School (DeKalb & Seneca) was closed in 2009, demolished and a City school is currently being built in it's place.

St. Aloysius itself is on the other side of Stanhope. It anchors the Stockholm Street Historic District.

St. Pancras School is across the street from it's associated church, not on the same block.

Holy Cross School closed in the mid-2000s.

Does not show my grade school at all, formerly Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, now Notre Dame Catholic Academy.

The Maspeth Jewish Center on Grand Ave is across the street and a block over from where it's shown (the noted location is a Key Food)

The United Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood moved from 60th place (where they moved to I never found out) and a Coptic Orthodox church moved in.

the B13 terminates at DeKalb, not Stanhope.

What the map denotes as "Starr Playground" is the not open to the public athletic field for Grover Cleveland High School.

The real Star Playground is not even actually shown as a park.

Cool beans! Glad to hear they're still in print. When I was a kid back in 1961, I drew political cartoons for them when Dave and Celia Stein owned it. At the time they were on Irwin Ave, below the strip mall above on Riverdale Ave. So a trip down nostalgia lane, I see they moved off the hill a long time ago.

When the paper opened up originally in the early 1950's, they were in this building on Riverdale Ave up near 238th:

The apartment building next to the old Riverdale Press building was once a private home belonging to the Nasser family (yeah, THAT Nasser family) and eventually they sold and moved out around 1968.

Not likely to happen either. :)

Sadly, across the street from there before those townhouses were built was a wonderful steep hill with a nice farm house on the top. It was the absolute greatest for sledding in winter. Even had a recess before the land rose back up to the sidewalk so you could stop before getting to the street.
