What about those large mosaic tiles that say "Van Wyck Blvd"? Obviously those aren't going anywhere, so what's the difference in dropping the name from the nomenclature? |

Just like at Court Square-23rd Street, that still have the 23rd Street-Ely Avenue mosaic and square tiles, nothing else and most likely none. Probably would later change the name on the maps, plus reprogram the FIND display and announcements on the R-160's.Just neighborhood ego from the residents, that's all, that wanted this. So how about then changing "Jamaica-Van Wyck" as "Jamaica-89th Avenues", if they want to go so far. -William A. Padron ["<-Queens Blvd-<"] |

I'm a huge fan of single-word stations, makes things very railroad-like.We have had Woodlawn, and now we have Briarwood. Bowery sort of counts too, though not in the same way. In many cases, even two-word stations that relate more to the vicinity than a specific street are nice and practical. I'm not sure why they don't just make it "Kew Gardens," and "Forest Hills." That's how people refer to them in common conversation nowadays anyway. (I lived in Forest Hills for a couple of years). A simple "Jackson Heights" would also simplify a lot regarding that complex. This business of trying to squeeze all of this information into a station name seems so unnecessary, as long as you have good information about each station available and good maps. |

But if you have simple station names then those names will easily catch on. If I tell someone in Forest Hills that I "caught the subway in Forest Hills," they immediately assume I mean at Continental.67 Ave is very close to the line of Rego Park and Forest Hills that I would just leave it as is. Meanwhile 63rd Drive can easily just be Rego Park, and Woodhaven Blvd at this point might as well become Queens Center (while Queens Plaza should have a different name). |

I'd suggest renaming Roosevelt Avenue/Jackson Heights to 74th Street/Roosevelt Avenue. This would eliminate possible confusion between this station and the 82nd Street–Jackson Heights station on the 7 line, and give both the IND station and the IRT station a common element to which the station can be called (74th Street). |

There's no other 74th St in the system, and the name makes sense in the context of adjoining stations on both the IND line and the IRT line. There are lots of Roosevelt Avenue stations on the IRT, and a Roosevelt Island station on the IND.I think that because it's a big complex people feel like it has to have a big name. If you don't go with the neighborhood name, Jackson Heights, then just make it simply 74th St, no? |

All this re-naming nonsense should just stop. Didn't anyone learn a lesson from what happened to 6th Ave?? Avenue of The Americas never did catch on. Who's idea was that, La Guardia's? How ironoic it was that the name change of the avenue, initiated by him didn't work out, but an airport wound up with his name, changed from some other name (North Field?) no doubt.I think there was an official attempt to officially re name "The Avenue of the Americas"... back to 6th Ave! |
