Body contour much more like an M-8 than an M-7, but still unique.
Back to M-1 number series.

It has pinched-in sides as floor level, which serve the purpose of

i) insuring the customers don't get too comfortable. Gotta remind the proles that we don't really matter that much

ii) creating a clever little trap for out-of-towners and bar patrons who've decided to leave the car at home so as to not drink and drive. It's also great for culling the disabled. Little did they know a pineapple-faced bureaucrap has set a trap for them!

Whose trains shall never meet, so who is "frowning" upon it ?
On the other hand, NJT, Amtrak, and LIRR can meet.
So can Amtrak and MN.

Shall every railroad be required to have 5 digit numbers assigned by FRA to avoid such numbering conflicts ?

Doesn't Matter. LIRR 9001 is a different machine from MNCR 9001.

Long Island 9001 is the full nomenclature of the above equipment,
Metro North 9001 is a different machine.
Amtrak 9001 is a third machine.
BNSF 9001 might be on the same consist with NS 9001.

Where is the problem.
