Even when New York City is abandoned after Interstellar War III, and is roamed by coyotes and wildebeests, there will still be an Eastern Division. There may not be a Queens anymore, though. |

The other component of the BRT was Kings County Elev RR but I don’t think that covered any part of what became the Southern Div. |

Since Bkln City RR was exclusively a surface operation, and was actually taken over by the BRT I don’t think really qualifies as an ancestor to the BRT. Also,I worked with a number of old time BMT Men who had started as trolley M/M and never heard any references made to a Southern or Eastern Division on the surface lines. |

You actually thought to ask these "old timers" if they had ever heard of a Southern or Eastern Division on the surface lines? Why? And I am talking origins: how many of them researched early BRT history, do you suppose? If BCRR wasn't an ancestor the BRT, what is? You only think lines that became rapid transit are ancestors of the BRT? And the BRT had the BCRR (like other properties) by leasehold and the BCRR returned like the phoenix until 1928, was it was absorbed into the B&QT. |

I don’t think you could really consider the BCRR as an ancestor of the BRT since it was the BRT that took over the BCRR and not the other way around. In any case the Eastern and Southern Divisions being referred to are subway and elevated divisions and not surface divisions. |

True, since the crews were probably based what eventually became the Eastern Division. By the way, According to some of the old time BMT towermen I worked with, all the elevated towers in downtown Bkln which would include Sands St, Bridge Yd, Adams St cut and Park Row in Manhattan were considered Eastern Division towers even though they handled trains of both the Eastern and Southern Divisions. Navy St on the Myrtle El which separated 5 Av and Myrtle trains was also an Eastern tower. In the subway portion of the BMT, Broad St was also considered an Eastern tower even though tks R1 and R2 tracks south of Chambers St were numbered as and considered to be Southern Division tracks which accounts for the tk numbering change at the physical south end of Chambers St. All trains arriving Chambers St via either the Willy B or the Manny B were railroad north and despite the fact that the tracks between Chambers and the Nassau Cut ere Southern Div tracks, the train interval sheets at Broad St showed all trains arriving from the direction of Chambers St as “northbound” including the Culver and West End trains which were actually southbound. Why Broad St tower was assigned to the Eastern, I could’t figure out since not only was it actually in the Southern Division but prior to the installation of City Hall master tower the switches in the Nassau Cut separating the Bway and Nassau St services were controlled by Broad St tower. |

Not only should every subway car have CCTV, it should be published though out the system and media. IIRC, didn't the FEds pay to have all of CHicago's rolling stock retrofitted with CCTV recently? |
