I didn't know this. Do you know the source of the explosion/fire?Mark: The incident occurred on a southbound "A" train at 6:36 AM at the 181st Street Station. There was a fire and explosion under car 3006 and the train was taken out of service at 175th Street. The initial report was by Mr.Randy Glucksman who was a passenger on the train and appeared in the December 1996 edition of the ERA New York Division Bulletin. The damge was to a contact shoe beam assembly and housing and to an air bag. Our own Mr.William Padron was also a passenger on that train and his account appears in the January 1997 edition. A third follow-up report is in the February 1997 edition. The 3004-3005-3006 unit was taken out of service. The other two three car units were then coupled together and placed in service on the "C" train effective November 25, 1996. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

One of them ended up at a school in Brooklyn. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Sorry to bump this post, but interesting to hear that it wasn't 3007-3009 that was taken out of service, but rather 3004-3006. (nycsubway.org states 3007-3009 were taken out of service on this same day) |
