No one was injured and no flames were visible when fire was reported on a Metro-North train at the Fairfield Metro Station Tuesday, July 29. (7:19 am)

MTA Police said there was smoke from overhead wires, but no visible flames. Passengers were taken off the train and were waiting for a replacement to resume their journey.

Fairfield Asst. Fire Chief Scott Bisson said no flames were visible on the outside of Train 1531, which was on track 3 and being evacuated.

Firefighters determined there was a fire in the high voltage area atop car 8912. The engineer and conductor had lowered the catenary structures and allowed the fire to extinguish itself, Bisson said.

There was a minor smoke condition inside the car, Bisson added. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to make sure the fire was out.

The train was emptied and taken to the Stamford depot for repairs.

Metro-North was reporting delays of up to 30 minutes due to the incident.
