So, anyone know the story behind this? Daniel The Cool suggests there is one, and it would be uncool for Daniel to lie. |

The crew was aware that the signs were going haywire and they called it in.A TSS responded to the train. The speculation was a customer got into the cab of the last car and started fiddling with the sign box and was putting in random codes. |

If the crew was aware, why not just turn all the signs off and let the C/R make the announcements. Where actually was the train (on what shared trackage)? |

Just to get into the cab. The vandals have keys. Plus the latch to hold the cab door closed on the R46 is cheesy at best. |

That actually happened post 9/11 when the H tracks of the Manny B were out and no Bway BMT service could operate S/O Canal St. Js were sent via the tunnel and Nassau to 95 St and Ms were sent via the tunnel and Nassau to Stl via the Sea Beach. |

I do remember the J to 4th/95th during that period. I don't personally remember the M running via the N...but I believe you, and I could research it myself anyway. But I thought the "H" tracks on the bridge had been restored to service on 7/22/01- no? Unless they were again out of service due to 9/11 issues.. again, I guess I should look up the maps from that terrible time.. |

Thank you. That clarifies a lot. I remember that the 1.2.3 & 9 did not return to normal until Sept. 2002. Then, a building collapsed at Rector Street. The theory was that the building (contained "George's"- an old-fashioned "workingman's lunch" joint) was weakened by collapse of the WTC, but the damage wasn't apparent until vibrations caused by the subway returned. The building was rebuilt and, George's re-opened as well... |

As seen on Facebook, there is a (secret) group of railfans called the "Railfan Conquestors" that are responsible for changing the signs on trains and vandalizing them. All go to Transit Tech, and the group is led by David "Delta Concourse" Oritz. |

UNless these vandals have illegally obtained employee issued sign changers, I don't see how they could change the signs since unlike the older cars all current cars that lack electronic signs require a special device. |

The signs can be changed with an allen key, but David Ortiz (The ringleader of these troublemakers) is infamous for using a pair of scissors jammed in the sign receptacle to change them. |
