Uhh huh..Whatever the case..they[MTA] did not throw its weight behind this project even in the 90's when it was again under study..if they REALLY WANTED to build the BYPASS..they would have regardless of all the NIMBY whining. To this very day, while ESA is being constructed..why isnt there space AND a ROW being built to support this route? there is one being built for AMTRAK under the MTA's control! BILLIONS of dollars are being spent on this thing that is eating up transportation money for years to come..when its finally finished..only extremely well off folks will be able to use it since the cost of a ride will be 20 bucks one way from Jamaica! the By pass was planned for,PAID for by the CITY TAX PAYERS already YEARS AGO..yet there is NOTHING to show for it,except a wishful dream..while LONG ISLAND reaps the benefit. |

Even today, there is extra capacity in the tunnel which could be used for a superexpress line. Unfortunately, there is the question of whether the trunk lines (6th Ave, 8th Ave, Broadway) also have available capacity. |

The F line was directly slated for the 63rd st tunnel BYPASS Southeast Queens lines...while E service would have split between the LIE route and 179th st.the SAS service would have used the 63rd st tunnel for new QB Express. basically, routes were to be relocated..moved or replaced..especially the E line. |
