This reminds me of a detour back in 1999, when I was on a northbound R68 D train was diverted over to the Q line, (back when the Q was terminated at 21st St-Queensbridge) once that train was delayed at 34th St/Herald Sq for a lengthy period of time. It's sucks to be on the business end of this, but then again, it also makes for a great photo op! |

Assuming this is a NB train - just let it continue to 63rd Drive on the NB local track, then take the switch for the Rockaway Line and then continue across Queens and Jamaica Bay to Far Rock.LOL |

The most fun detours I spotted in person were the E to 168th (that I never got photos of) and a B sent down the Culver line (which I do). That doesn't count planned detours. |

Since there is no way that a Southbound A train can end up on the Queens Blvd Line without a reverse move at some point. I would guess that its more likely that the Sign Control Unit for that pair of cars was not responding to the command from the head car or someone was tampering with the side signs. |

I did rig up a radio to pull in the local NYC AM stations. I caught one of Mike's press conferences. One of my roommates was from Chicago and had not heard Mike. The following exchange convulsed him with laughter.Reporter: Mike they say you can't get along with Mayor Lindsay because he's a Republican. Quill: We got along farrr twelve years with Gooveror Dooeeeh and he wasn't exactly what you would call a soo-ci-al-ist. |

Not to split hairs here, but technically speaking, the line wasn't "abandoned" but the service was simply" suspended" or "discontinued". One day trains ran, the next day, they didn't.The LIRR just shut off the juice & walked away from it. Rails, both running & 3d & wayside signals left to be re-claimed by nature. Not an ounce of material removed. As far as I know, the state still retains title to the right of way. But=abandoned= works for the masses, like e.g. If you want to see the Mets, take the #7 "subway" to Mets-Willets Point "subway' Sta. |

I remember in 1999 or so being on an R46 E sent to Euclid (this was during a brief time when there were maybe 2 R46s on the E at any given moment). On the way back the signs said E to Jamaica Center. And in both directions we used the Fulton St Express. |

But a southbound A would show Far Rockaway, and a northbound A sent up Queens Boulevard would have to go back the way it came. The train in the pic is southbound, so the "Far Rockaway" sign is accurate. |

Yes, you obviously understood my point about north and south bound trains. We're half way there. Now my main point was that if it were a south-bound train, there is no way that it could have "become lost" and ended up at Roosevelt Ave Station because to do so would require a reverse move. |

Reaching back to the memory banks, Quill had a hard on for Lindsay. Something about his education, presence, & overall apparence of elitism that pissed Quill off. (Jealous, maybe?) Quill was always able to make a deal with Wagner at the last minute on previous contract cliffhangers. No deal with Lindsley, 13 day strike ensued & prettymuch brought the city to its knees.I had 9 days of school I had to make up!! Never thought I'd miss the Q 44 ride over the Whitestone Br to St Helenas! |

Quill really had a thing for limousine republicans, and Lindsay certainly fit that bill. Lindsay was in congress before becoming mayor and IIRC, there was some bill that Quill wanted passed and Lindsay blew him off over it. Something to that effect. But Quill had a hardon for him before he became mayor and it only went downhill from there. :) |

The TWU walked out on January 1, 1966 which was Lindsay's first day in office. The strike occurred because of the policies of Abe Beame. Under Lindsay, Transit Workers and other Civil Servants received a great pension plan. Lindsay also joined the democratic party in 1971 but why let a few facts interfere with another of your (not so) great political rants. |

Quill actually ambushed Lindsay on his first day in office. Lindsay was a liberal and Quill anticipated that Lindsay would cave quickly. He didn't cave quickly but he did give in and transit workers did quite well as a result. |
