It's a scan of a slide, so not photoshopped. Steve Zabel was known for his "staged" photos. He actually put that rollsign in there to look like that. |

It's easy to put a homemade sign in the sign-box. Get your dimensions and font correct and roll the train(or trolley) sign down to the white blank area. Carefully insert the sign in that area and the back-lighting or normal light will show your new sign. We did it on a PCC-II trip so we had the trolley reading "12" - 12th & South".We needed 2 signs, the route number and the destination. It looked really good. |

SEPTA had to pull New Flyer buses from their Route 75 (formerly trackless) b/c the electronic signs wouldn't show a 75 sign. So much for electronics!I like it when they put a cardboard sign in the windshield of a new bus!! Sorry, I guess this should be on Bus-Chat!! |

It perhaps doesn't, however Steve did this sort of thing all the time. Many of his photos have "strange" rollsigns if you look at nycsubway.org. He placed them there physically, not digially.In fact, here he even forgot to move the real rollsign out of view of the photo!! It's sitting by his bag on the platform:  |
