I would imagine slowing down on a curve headed for the interlocking there could have had some interesting "run-in" if they'd gotten any speed up heading for it. "Train handling" is an issue with CSX with lots of fresh meat on the extra board.

First, I guess the Marble Hill Station to GCT would not work out in the morning rush hour.

Second, couldn't NYCT run express trains in the peak direction from 242 to 103rd or 96th Street and then express to 42nd St. (to slightly reduce commuter time)?

Obviously they can't borrow too many, but why can't MNRR borrow one or two Amtrak P32s (and possibly crews)? They could run a shuttle from NYP to Yonkers and save a lot of this bustitution nonsense...

They are in the process of rebuilding those locomotives, right? It's not like they'd break the bank installing the control equipment to trigger shoe retraction. And once the rebuild engines (how many are out at a time, 1? 2? 3?) return they'd gain the margin to have a few locomotives which cannot operate into GCT. These units would be completely capable of operating Wassaic, Danbury, and Poughkeepsie shuttle trains.

If you don't want to drive a train there, that's fine, just say so. But don't throw up technical FUD as some reason it cannot be done.

WillD stick to things you know about, as for locomotives that is not it....
FRA requires maintenance on any and all equipment installed, putting pneumatic piping and controls on locomotive not only adds to maintenance cost it also adds to unsprung weight on truck. which results in rail and wheel wear. and all for something you may need once in 20 years ??

I would happily carve that out of five sided waste fraud and abuse. As to the advantages of standardization... and why shouldn't there be equipment sharing/run through services? We all know the Central and the Pennsy each believed they were uniquely able to design perfection--that era is over. Preserving multiple third raildesigns is like keeping Beta and VHS. My tuppence

Seems to me once a single national PTC standard evolves, that issue will be moot. IINM Amtrak and most Class I freight diesels are cross compatible with whatever cab signal systems they are likely to encounter on the various host RRs. The Class Is figured that out so they wouldn't have to shuffle leader units on run through power, surely MN and LIRR can learn from them.

CSX sued the crap out of the site back in 2005, so it's been slim pickin's ever since. Employees get watched and if they go anywhere NEAR there, they end up working for CPRail instead. So recent events aren't there since folks are scared to go there. CSX isn't QUITE as bad as it was under John Snow, but it's still good old CSX just the same. God, I miss Conrail. :(

Update ...

Went into town earlier and struck up a conversation with a few of my old Conrail buddies at the local gin mill. Seems that Oak Hill and a few other spots have rookies on the rails. But it gets worse. This is something I was handed and given the okey-dokey to post as long as no names are ever involved. We all knew BLET was going to go to shit under the Teamstas, but that the FRA isn't enforcing either was quite the shock ... :(

The "dumpster diver" may not have been qualified!

ALERT....ALERT....

THIS IS YOUR WAKE UP CALL. PAY ATTENTION AND GET READY TO GROW A PAIR
OR BE THE ABUSED BIT... UNDER THE SUPERVISORS BOOT!

Operating rule 46 is now being used to intimidate and scare employees
into taking jobs that they know they are not qualified for or were not
properly trained for. It is also being used to get around the engineers
agreement that the company put their "JOHN HENRY" on and agreed
to(article 61-paragraph B) Engineers must be qualified on ALL WORK
PROTECTED BY AN ASSIGNMENT!

Rule 46 does not say anything about an employee not needing to know the
physical characteristics of a job they have been called to work because
they will be using other than main or signaled tracks and will be
moving at a speed to protect their train or equipment(looking out for
improperly lined switches....etc...etc... etc...

There are supervisors who are abusing this rule and making employees
take jobs that they have no business taking and are threatening
insubordination charges if they don't. What these idiot supervisors
don't seem to understand is there is more to running around on a set
of tracks when it comes to working a job.

A crew was ordered to take a job or face possible insubordination
charges that required them working a facility with hazmat dangerous
materials. this crew had never been in this industry and knew
ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING ABOUT ITS DESIGN, SAFETY ISSUES, TRACK
CHARACTERISTICS, CLOSS CLEARANCES, UNAUTHORIZED AREAS OR SPOTS OR
PLACES. After a lecture of the abused rule 46 rules and further actions
of disciplinary charges the crew did the stupid thing and went. Lucky
for them it ended well because they were able to get pulled from the
job by another supervisor who was born with a brain in his head!

Your union and the FRA are not going to do a thing about this. This is
not the first time this rule has been abused and it wont be the last.
It is up to YOU to take a stand for your safety and the safety of the
crew member you are working with. You do not have to put your health or
safety on the line for any supervisor. Follow protocol first. Call the
FRA and your LC immediately! If there is nothing done then you must
notify OSHA! Wake up people! Look around. The changes in the way the
employees are being ruled is getting out of hand. Start calling your
international and remind them they have that cushy overpaid seat
because you voted to put them there and that can very easily be
changed. Just think what they would do if no one paid their dues!

Or in MY case, Barry Goldwater. Ronald Reagan was his own favorite vegetable. :)

Yeah, life isn't happy in CSX land. Hit the local gin mill earlier after posting the link and was asking why nobody does CSX-SUCKS anymore. To my surprise, they still do, just not as obviously. There's forums on there and lo and behold, after being told the story of how short-sheeted the railroad is and talking about Quebec, got told the story of how they're handling their "industrials" (like MNRR) with whatever they can throw at the jobs. :(

It is the train table. HO scale track does not expand or contract all that much, the the humidity can cause major expansion or shrinking of the train table. This is what causes the kinks that derail your trains.

In any event, I have it on the highest authority that a MONSTER reached out and pulled that train over.

If you inspect that train you will find that the 'container' carrying Uranium deuturide oxide is missing.

The MONSTER appears to be fabricating an unclean pressure disruptive device.

ROAR

Can MetroNorth require that CSX crews be properly qualified to operate on MetroNorth's tracks?

Sorry, most of CSX wrecks are their fault, not just accidents.
