It looks like it got clipped by the left front corner of the other train. Shots on the 10PM news show insulation and stainless steel sheets sticking out of the missing left front window of the striking train. (Still don't have that unit number)

Hopefully 9174-75 and 9310-11 (that's the newest one) have only undercarriage damage, and that it can be fixed. 9247 I'm not sure can be repaired, and 9193 looks worse than it probably is. Notice that she appears to only have a black eye and that the corner isn't deformed; just stuff wrapped around it.

Right, but they pay the insurer, not you. Now if it isn't a defective train though, MTA eats it, warrantee or not. That's where I was going with it since it looked from some of the pictures like the problem was a rolled rail.

ACCORDING TO LION:

First train derailed. Second train was close but not quite that close.
PAX in first train would have gotten out of their seats, start moving toward end exits and into safer cars.

SECOND: not enough time to drop a redball on the east bound. Engineer should have seen the problem and should have begun breaking. His unit took most of the damage on his train derailing it so that the PAX compartment received only a glancing blow. No damage to his space engineer survives.

Your impressions may vary, LION suspects that the NTSB will take this one up and details will appear in about two years.
