From the Stamford Advocate:FAIRFIELD -- Two trains collided and one derailed shortly after 6 p.m. Friday in the vicinity of Commerce Drive along the Fairfield-Bridgeport line. There are scanner reports of injuries and multiple ambulances are on the scene. Mutual aid has been called from Bridgeport, Westport, Fairfield University, Easton and Trumbull. From NBC-CT:Two Metro North trains have collided near the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line. According to Fairfield police, one of the trains derailed and was then struck by a second train. The accident scene is in Bridgeport, police said. Emergency crews are on the scene. There is no word on injuries. |

I was wondering when someone was gonna cheer on the two trainsets being the newer equipment, thus lengthening the lifespan of some of the older cars while these get repaired.It seems like that M8 held up pretty well though. Its amazing that no one died in this crash yet a similar crash happened between an MARC and Amtrak train years ago and it was really bad, many lives were lost, it even had its own documentary show on those cable channels at one point. |

Last I checked plenty of systems use rolling stock lighter than the current UIC standard would dictate without incident. Some of them have been using those cars for 40 years, and are in the process of rebuilding them for another decade or so of service. "Railroads" are not in any way different from those systems. |
