PHOTOS: Roosevelt Road |
|
Posted by kp5308 on Sun Apr 28 22:02:28 2013 Got to spend about an hour out on a famous Chicago bridge during the evening rush on a Wednesday. Although a lot has changed over the years it is still worth a visit :o)I didn't know BNSF lettered bilevels....nice touch: Standard skyline shot...hadda do it: Metra has hand thrown switches at the exit of the storage yard. Must be a lot of fun in winter: "Heritage" bilevel? On the other side of the bridge sat Boston & Maine 6-4-6 sleeper Salisbury Beach Pullman class of '54, now owned by LA Rail: |

Maybe my New York chauvinism is showing, but that "skyline" is so lame compared to ours. I never cared for the Sears tower style and never warmed up to it all these years later. But the shots of the train yard are pretty spectacular! |

Find a copy of Chicago's Famous Buildings (Univ of Chicago Press) Having lived in both cities, I suggest Chicago has standout buildings. Ignoring the Sears Tower, I submit the Hancock, the former 1st National Bank, and although not to my taste, the corn cobs. (Marina City) |

I am a native NY'er and love my City, but the Chicago skyline is excellent. Not as many bland boxes slipped in. The bridges around the city are also a great visual. |

Of course, the view of the Chicago skyline from the south isn't its best angle. To get the full effect, it should be seen from the lakefront, out around the Adler Planetarium.Alan Follett |

Posted by pd11604 on Wed May 1 09:23:15 2013, in response to Re: PHOTOS: Roosevelt Road, posted by gbs on Mon Apr 29 00:26:08 2013. I remember being in Chicago for my job in late 2001. I had the opportunity to go to the top of the Sears tower. I remember remarking to the elevator operator, that I was from NY and now people had to come to Chicago to go to the top of the tallest building in the USA.Also remember the architectural styling of the Wrigley building |
