Posted by kp5308 on Sun Feb 17 16:03:22 2013 Before leaving Jersey we shot Q418 at Cove Road in Pennsauken:And stopped in Birdsboro PA to shoot the ex-PRR freight station (somebody please save me!): When we entered the show we were greeted by the Pete Larrow Jr. artwork "table"...friggin' fantastic: Off to the layouts. Strasburg Model Railroad Club was the first stop. Recognize the site? Capital PenNscalers: The East Penn Traction Club HO scale modular features working overhead: South Eastern Garden Railway Society was present: The Alleghney Western Lines HO setup has an HO-sized Auto Train Lorton VA terminal: Reading Company Technical & Historical Society has a MONSTER HO scale modular. For this show they set up at 120' x 30': It is made up of scenes along the Reading Lines, like this one of East Penn Junction near Allentown: IMO the show stopper was PennLUG & their layout completely done with LEGO! How 'bout a LEGO L5: We also took in some Reading PA points of interest. The biggest hit was the Skew Bridge spanning N 6th St: It has the nickname of "Soap & Whiskey Bridge" because Osborn made a model of soap to demonstrate the viability of the concept & some of the Irish immigrants who helped build it were paid in whiskey for their efforts: It has never had a problem supporting anything that has crossed it: We caught up with power for the oil cans at Neversink Road in Exeter Township: Double track since opening in 1847: The first Philadelphia & Reading shops still stand at 7th & Chestnut in Reading & are visible here across the street from the renovated Franklin St. station. This site is where it all began for the P&R in 1832: A good place to stop for lunch if you are in the area is Five Guys on the 5th St. Highway. The parking lot runs right up to the NS main artery for traffic to & from North Jersey: |

Who owns that freight station ?It was last used as a antique store but I don't think the business owned the building. Fortunately the other side looks a little better. Next time I go I'll hafta see if there still is a "for sale" sign on the building. |

But since you refuse to say something along the lines of "no Kevin, I have not" I will not elaborate on the story behind this project & what will replace said bridge. |
