Myabe some vandal push the emergency stop button just before you got there?A quick check of the MTA's website reveals that the Bleecker St escalator between the northbound (6) platform and the mezzanine is out for repairs. The outage is reported from 9/28/12 6:43am. It is not expected to go back into service until 9/30/12 12:00am. The original poster recorded the outage on 9/27/12 23:01. There's a gap of nearly 8 hours between when Mr. zac recorded the outage and NYCT's website documents it responded. I have no idea of the original cause of the escalator's malfunction. Nor do I care to speculate. However, I do believe NYCT's recorded 7+ hour response time is a measure of NYCT's nonfeasance in maintaining the system. |

Mr. Bauman- seems to me that you're trying to be extra-classy, but you're just as dismayed, but unsurprised as the rest of us that the escalator's OOS almost as soon as the connection opened. |

The fact that NYCT can allow a brand new, featured on the news, escalator go out of service within 2 days just shows how incompetent they are in managing contractors. If that happened in my line of work they'd be on the phone and back on the job in minutes. |

That's a new record for incompetence for the MTA.What is it with the MTA and escalators, anyway? Escalators have been around for a century. They are not cutting edge technology. Why can't they keep these things running? Is someone on the MTA board getting kickbacks from the escalator repairs contractors? I remember when the escalator at Boro Hall on the 2/3 was closed for repair for almost two years. |

It was running again this morning. On another note, the announcement on my B train was "transfer is available to the Downtown 6". There were a lot of people getting off in spite of this that were transferring. Given how few people did the out-of-system transfer it felt crowded on the 6 train today. I guess it will always be this way from now on. A lot of people always transferred going the other way. |

"There's a gap of nearly 8 hours between when Mr. zac recorded the outage and NYCT's website documents it responded. "That may be, but there is no evidence of when the outage was reported to the MTA. Posting on Subchat does not count. |
