One little nitpic about CR 8098 ... I know that particular loco, we had one HELL of a time ripping out the old radio and replacing it because of the way it was welded in. This is the REAL 8098:

And here it is today:

Just felt like participating in some of the anal here for giggles. But of all the numbers to choose ... I wonder what happened to SD80MAC 4116? That was another one I was all over back in the Gonerail days that stuck to my mind for all the fun that one was. I rarely remember unit numbers, but the ones I had to beat with a stick DID ... stick. :)

8098 was one of those. Heh.

Great photos, Bob! Some of those liveries look really good on these brutes (N&W, Erie, Nickle Plate) while others don't (Pennsy).

My own two sentimental favorites are the Erie and Lackawanna units, because I grew up in a town on the Erie, during the Erie-Lackawanna days so what I knew was basically the Lackawanna livery.

You would think dark olive-green would come off as drab, but somehow it doesn't, at least not when it's fresh and shiny. :-)

and Baldwins and Alcos and Fairbanks Morses; GE was a minor player in road power during the PRR era.

certainly less than NYC, although if you add in the electric motors the ## shift. IMHO PRR's best locomotives were the GG1 and E44.

Further nit picking along the same line; NKP never bought any GEs.
