It looks like they started the original ends of the Bleeker station a few months back with tile but then stopped all work on it. It hasn't changed in a while.I had noticed they were working late on the stairs/escalator in the new transfer and I figured they were getting close. There must have been some disincentive to have it go on any longer as the signs said finished by Q2. There's still a lot of work to be done. |

It looks like they started the original ends of the Bleeker station a few months back with tile but then stopped all work on it. It hasn't changed in a while.Within the last week or so, they've filled in a lot of tile around the blue "Bleecker Street" tablets at the north end of the downtown platform. It also looks as though they've done some more of the decorative brickwork near the entrance on that end of the platform. |

Nope - - as of this morning, the new transfer passage is not ready for prime time. Maybe a week or two it will finally open.The "boarding area" overhead signs near the C/R positions are installed on the IND platforms, so it's really getting close. |

What I'm interested in seeing is the finish planned for the non-original portion of the station. No tablets are present. And there doesn't look like there will be cutouts for them either. My guess is this - and it's only a guess - there are gaps at the top of the white tile where plaques or cartouches would be fitted - on both sides - and there will be "mini" versions of the big plaques with lettering "Bleecker Street" placed therein. I guess we will have to wait and see. I did like the "proto-IND" tile they had previously - nice shades of blue used.wayne |

I don't know if this is worth banking on, but I just received the following response from MTA Customer Service in response to an inquiry I'd made:"We have been advised that the opening date for the Broadway-Bleecker Street transfer will be August 13, 2012. We hope this information is helpful to you." So six weeks from today's the date (fingers crossed). |

I didn't think it would be open today. It was still dust covered on Friday with all the equipment still in place. If they wanted to they may have been able to open the staircase, but the escalator isn't ready. I mean, really, it's only been 3 years. How fast do you think they can work? |

Yeah it took from March 24, 1900, when they broke ground at City Hall, until October October 27, 1904, to build the whole freakin' IRT. I can certainly see why tweaking one of the 28 stations that opened on that day would take nearly as long. |

It is also unclear whether Houston Street above still has sections closed off due to this construction, or something else. The curbs at Houston St just confirms what I said in my post above, it looks like the street isn't finished even though the hole was long ago filled in.At least it will finally be open. I've been transferring there for over 10 years now, or at least when that side of the Manhattan Bridge was open. |
