I still say they should have gone with the green.

With the Levin E-8's running around there's little need for additional Tuscan Red units.

well, I thought a Nickel Plate "Bluebird" scheme would have been better, but the program is great.

Eric Levin said yesterday that there are about a dozen minor changes he would have made to make the scheme more authentic, but that people who complain about the great work that NS is doing with the heritage units are jerks.

I don't agree. If you are going to bring back a respected franchise people are nostalgic about you should do it right or not do it at all. Saying that people who complain are jerks and should be happy to eat any old crap sandwich served to them is the Michael Bay/George Lucas position.

Anyway Tuscan red was the easy answer that would most please the marketing department because it is much more distinctive than Brunswick green would have been. Brunswick Green, in addition to being correct for a freight unit, would have been much bolder as people have tended to forget about it apart from the GG-1.

Oh, also if you use the correct copper based pigments the locomotive will change color with age as the copper oxidizes, which is a pretty cool effect.

Diesel passenger engines (E7, PA1, and I think E8 models) were painted Brunswick Green until about 1948 or '49.

Yes, that does not conflict with what I just said. That all Tuscan units were passenger doesn't not imply the reverse.

I see no need to nitpick this at all. I'm glad they're not spending my money paining 'memorial' units like UP did. Still waiting for an NYC unit.
