The Red X shows just about where that BRT Standard was almost a century ago.The line curving off on the mystery photo was the original Sea Beach Line, which was actually visible at least into the '60s and before Coney Island Yard was built over it. The creek was Hubbard's Creek, which was filled for Coney Island Yard and housing further inland. |

BMT Standards were nearly as big as NYW&B cars and has roofs that look superficially similar. But the NYW&B was a very heavily built road with overhead electrification and the cars had pantographs. |

The original right-of-way to Sea Beach Palace, the location of Luna Park, roughly midway between Culver and West End Depots. Sea Beach never went to Culver, though it stopped in front of West End Depot for about a year before the current connecting tracks to West End Depot were built. |

Farming actually lasted a long time in Brooklyn. My surprise was that they cultivated what had been marsh land. Riding across the Coney Island Creek area on the Coney Island Avenue horse car was described as a race between the horses and the mosquitoes. |

Looking at the 1924 version of the NYC GIS Aeriel map, it is the Sea Beach line at a point just opposite to the Stillwell Storage yard, located just south of Dewey HS, and west of the inspection barn. The siding shown on the 1924 NYC GIS aerial map is horizontally parallel to where the ramp of the West End line rises to reaches the elevated structure at Stillwell Avenue. I recall active farms adjacent to the CI Yard up until the later part of the 1960's, and Staten Island into the 1970's. |

Talk about Staten Island, much of it was downright rural until after the V-N Bridge was built. I used to love the strangeness of riding city buses (6000 series Macks) on the 108-113 from Tottenville on roads where the bus had stops where there was a house. |
