I don't know about its west/south trip, but fifteen minutes after I photographed it in Pennsauken it reversed direction on track 1 at SHORE and returned to MMC. |

Thanks for clarifying.IMV, they bought too many of them. They had better hope they work as well as they keep advertising they will. Funny thing is, something like that would be ideal for a possible Amtrak service to the Lehigh Valley and beyond . . . |

Some videos of the AMT ones were posted online earlier this year. They were apparently rather loud; they are a 24-cylinder locomotive in diesel mode after all (whence the E-units?? gimme a new E-unit with twin 12-710s and AC traction motors, eh?), and they run at over double the RPMs of traditional diesels (1900 rpm). |

RR netters are saying that Amtrak has explicitly stated they are to only be run in diesel mode on their lines, so far...I don't think they've tested E mode, or if they have they found some big problem, because I don't think anyone's seen one yet with the pan up. Scuttlebutt is they don't work very well as diesels... |

In the region they operate they can not test the horns during overnight inspections (residential area's) to make sure they have a working horn a second spare horn is mounted.both do not work at same time. |

There's a lot of hope surrounding that. You're looking at $12 million worth of locomotive on the front of that train in those pix; about a third of that sum was paid for the PL42AC behind it. The $12 million job has two small 12-cylinder diesels and a transformer big enough for a regular electric loco. |

One oddity I am noting: the PL42 cannot clear the Hudson River tunnels into NYP, but the ALP-45 can, yet this ALP-45 looks to be as tall, if not taller, than the PL42. How can the dual mode meet clearance minimums, while the PL42 cannot? |
