Twice recently, I decided to transfer from a southbound R to a southbound F at Fourth Avenue and Ninth Street, Brooklyn. Granted that I'm aging, what a climb that is! I don't know whether it's my imagination, but that two-system transfer point (made free in July, 1948) seems to have too many twists and turns where muggers could be hiding. Yes, the news reports seem to say the incident happened on a platform (which direction), but the even raises the decades-long question of sufficient supervision and sufficient policing.--- There are at least three levels there: the fare control at street level on the west side of Fourth Avenue, the BMT platform level, the IND platform level. Is there yet another level with an underpass between inbound and outbound R trains? |

Even if it takes more time, it would be better to transfer at Jay St./MetroTech (Lawrence St.) between the F and R. Busier station, less stairs. |

That temp platform must be cursed. When it opened for business a few days ago, it was found to be making contact with a third rail when power was restored. Lol |

To Bill from Maspeth: Thanks! I now remember using that new Jay Street transfer for R to F, but I forgot it was fewer stairs than Ninth Street.---- The problem has been getting from LIRR Atlantic Terminal to the F Culver line. That's what led me up the flights of stairs at Ninth Street. Thanks. Joe |
