If RR=Rarely Reliable then LL=Lousy Local (at least that's what we called it at Stuyvesant HS in the late 1960's when it was still running BMT Standards). |

And were the R-7a's and R-9s much better than the AB's? We think not.Come to think of it, the only decent trains that have run on the "L" in recent times (NOT counting the few R-42s) are the R143's. =w= |

Only on the Brooklyn bound platform.Soo... for people who have no choice in the matter, it will tell them how long the wait is. But, for people who could actually use the information and decide to take the 1 instead, it will remain a mystery. Brilliant. Really hoping the other side is opening soon. |

No doubt the Arnines had seen their better days by that time, the newest of them being about 30 years old and none of them well maintained. However, the AB's by 1969 were in such bad shape that we didn't even bother waiting at Union Square in the winter for a train that would most likely never arrive but instead walk the few blocks to 1st Avenue. Thus the name "Lousy Local". |

At the Whitehall Street-South Ferry station it is not so much as a "walk" between the R and #1 platforms, as it is two sets of moderate length steps, or use of escalators between the platforms, and a relatively short passageway on the mezzanine level of the station.Mike |

It was the first time getting off there since my Stuy days, also late 60s. We may even know each other, but we could be off by a few years too. |

Except for those hard plastic seats, probably not. I heard that some of the truck bolsters on the BMT standards were so badly worn that there was concern that the truck would keep right on going after the rest of the train had stopped. |
