New York Telephone once received delivery of telephone poles via rail on a siding at or adjacent to the present Verizon building located at 741 Zeckendorf Blvd.

By the 1970's the siding was no longer used, since delivery was being conducted via truck. NYTel wanted to enlarge an adjacent parking lot, and decided to rip out the rail siding to make room. An astute Shoreline member, and NYTel field foreman, found out about the rail siding rip out and was able to obtain both the siding rail, and a bumper block, donated. Actually the deal was even handed. The rail was picked up and removed, and the Company saved some money on the rip out work. I can't recall as to what may have happened to the track switch.

The NYTel siding rail ended up at the Shoreline Trolley Museum, and replaced existing Connecticut Company 65 LB rail. The rail was laid down in May of 1975 at a point approximately east of where the Brooklyn Church Avenue underpass rail ends on the main line.

I have always suspected that the railway overpass on the parkway may have been part of a railroad infrastructure that connected to the NYTel siding.

Assuming the original post targeted the abandoned rail bridge crossing over the Meadowbrook Parkway, adjacent to Roosevelt Field Shopping mall, that rail line eventually winds its way down to what appears to be a non electrified RR RoW that intersects the LIRR Hempstead Branch to the west. The eastern segment of that same RoW ends in the general vicinity of Endo Blvd based on an aerial map of the area.

With rapid development of Nassau County, the remnants of former RR RoW's, especially lines abandoned prior to the 1950-60's, have become obscured rather quickly.

However, most of the right-of-way of the line from its former connection with the Central Branch north to Roosevelt Raceway, except for a one-block section between Commercial Avenue and Stewart Avenue, now occupied by a LIRR signal storage facility, still exists, with track (although overgrown with weeds and trees) still in place in a good portion of the right-of-way.

In fact, all of the track was there to East Gate Blvd until a year or two ago, when the grade crossings were paved over. Apart from the grade crossings, the rest remains.

Chris, I think you're thinking about the Bronze spur, the trestle for which still does go over the Meadowbrook. The bridge Mitch saw is the one off to the side of the Meadowbrook that looks like it just goes through a mound of dirt. That one is in fact part of the old central line.

Yeah, it's actually just going through a dirt mound sort of now. It's smack in the middle of the loop of the entrance ramp to the Meadowbrook right where it crosses the Central ROW

Actually it wasn't even the signal facility that severed the line, it was when they decided to remove the grade crossing over Stewart Av. And then about 5 years ago they also removed the grade crossing on Zeckendorf Blvd. I walked the entire line several times, plus the section from Mineola down to the former Hempstead Crossing station (just north of Country Life Press) and along the Secondary to Quentin Roosevelt.

Yes, and that bridge that you saw was indeed a part of the central. The bridge that actually does go over the highway is the one they're talking about (Bronze Spur or the Roosevelt Raceway spur, whatever you wanna call it)

Just wanna say, this line was my favorite to study as a kid. I walked it several times, one time going from Mineola, down the old ROW to where the Garden City line crosses Franklin Av, and the down the secondary to Quentin Roosevelt, and up the Bronze/Raceway spur all the way past the DMV. I remember walking over the Meadowbrook Parkway several times even. I also followed the secondary itself down to Mitchel Field. The circus train still parks all along the secondary.

Removed and used for scrap. With no trains running over it and the road beneath it unused and filled in, it serves no purpose whatsoever except as a curio for foamers like me.

So, Is this structure still there? I've been driving on the Meadowbrook regularly as of late, but I haven't seen it. Is it obscured by foilage (since the OP was in March when the trees were bare)?

It may be visible in the summer from the entrance ramp from Stewart Avenue, but generally winter is the time to see it.
