No, I think what they have now is a much better use of space. They produce income for the TA in the way of rent, in a place that was basically a dead zone years back. The "pretty" concourse is upstairs, they don't need the vast useless pace downstairs too.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions :) IMHO I don't like it now, but that is me. Then again, doesn't matter they did it. But, I am happy we still have a GCT, so guess I should be grateful :)

Yes. The alternative would be the horror of what they did in 1964 to Penn Station....

Jersey City, 1939. No further info, so this could be a lot of things

Looks like the approach to Erie Terminal to me. Now imagine if NYC wasn't all about the big steam loco ban and that was an approach to a bridge across the Hudson instead . . .

Exactly. So despite my not liking what they did to the lower level and overall mallification of GCT I will certainly take it over the Penn Station travesty treatment to it

Shoulda built a NY Union Station way back in the 1930s. That way, the war would have forced a postponement of its edifice and they could have built MSG on top of it instead of NYP . . . (would have been really interesting to have a common terminal for trains like the Royal Blue, Hunterdon Owl, Broker, National Limited, Erie Limited, Phoebe Snow, Crusader and suchlike to leave from, to be sure; makes one wonder how many would have stayed in operation today)
