The B train. The two empty ramps. Anyone who does not know where this is should cease posting to this board, as they are not NYC subway fans. |

The 1988 edition of some NYC Transit publication had a side by side picture of slants pre and post GOH (pre GOH had an orange B, post GOH had a yellow B) so I studied that difference well...You could also say the rubber molding around the storm window but that isn't a definitive difference. |

Some post GOH R40's had the rubber molding on the doors to the end, so that wasn't definitive. All the cars that went through the heavy GOH had their "express" and "local" marker lights removed, since by the 1980's they were obsolete. |

Zooming at top speed with near total darkness shattered by the speeding tunnel lights was almost like an acid trip, sans acid. Good thing I caught them on the orange D in 1986 before they were "cleaned up". |

The date could be anytime between late 1985 and late 1988. The ironic thing about the redbirds on the J was that they received new signage for "Queens Blvd" just in time for the line to be cut back to 121st St. For the next 3 years, they would be signed wrong, just as they had the previous 7 years when the line ended at Queens Blvd and the signage said 168th St. In late 1988, the cars got new rollsigns (the same the GOH R32's got) which included a "121st St", just in time for the Archer Ave opening. |

All this does is remind me how much the entire system sucks, with the bland NTT invasion. If time travel is ever invented, my first destination is October, 1986. That shot of the R32 cutting was not at QBP because if you look closely, there is an R27/30 set directly behind it, so it could be taken at Coney Island, or maybe at another spot like Astoria Blvd. on the Astoria Line! |
