Eurosprinters for AmtrakSupposedly, they're based on a new successor design known as the Vectron. They'll also be available in a diesel design for the railways that need it. One could argue that future similarity between future diesels and electrics may have played a role, and some may suspect Amtrak just simply wanted something other than BBD or Alstom given their past history. As with all things, I await the lawsuit. :-) FWIW, like the HHP-8s, it's from a company that has no shared lineage with the AEM-7s. In contrast, the ALP-44, ALP-46/A follow the trail from ASEA to ABB to AdTranz to Bombardier. |
