From what I understand their use was discontinued long before Sands and Park Row were abandoned and I believe the doors were permanently sealed and seats installed by the doorways. It probably had to do with the fact that only a limited number of BUs had center doors and they were probably mixed in so randomly with other classes of gate cars that their use was rendered impractical. |
