As much as there's some truth to that, the MAJOR issue for the Empty-yay was that all those new subway cars were more than enough expense for their LIRR. Had there been separate funding for the subways, perhaps some of that might have happened, but there was no money. As it was, the only reason why 63rd Street happened was the lower two tubes, not the ones that the feds forced them to somehow use.When MTA found out how much it was going to cost to fix those els, down they came. And after paying for those new 38-s through 44's, that was the end of any more spending as far as Ronan was concerned. THAT was the problem. Subways were stealing money from the LIRR and it *had* to be stopped. It was. Remember who was running things, not to mention Nassau then. :( |
