The big thing after the Empty-yay transition from NYCTA was Ronan's attitude. MTA was formed to bring the LIRR back from the dead and NYCTA pissed away several year's worth of their future budget paying for Lindsay's "air conditioned subway cars." As far as MTA was concerned, that was LIRR's money being stolen and as Ronan once put it "not ONE MORE DIME until NYCTA pays us back." Seriously ... MTA refused to spend any more money after all those new cars because all they cared about was the LIRR.Wonder why everything went absolutely to shit in the subways in the 70's and 80's? There's your answer. |
