The M-7, and more than likely the M-8, have an alerter which goes off every 30 seconds when the throttle has not been moved or used by the operator, and if the tone that sounds is not acknowledged after about 30 seconds, maybe a little more, the train gets automatically placed into emergency, and also if cab signal drops are not acknowledged, the train gets placed into emergency automatically. Many safeguards are in place to help prevent any incidents. |
