More on the new "Fulton St" tiles at Broadway-Nassau |
|
Posted by gbs on Fri Jun 11 02:37:10 2010 As has been mentioned, the "BWAY NASSAU" tiles along the curved walls along the platform have been replaced on the Brooklyn-bound side with "FULTON ST", in anticipation of a station name change (though the new map still calls the complex "Fulton Street Broadway Nassau").However, unlike original IND tilework, which omitted "ST" in the station tiles (like at Spring, Canal, Chambers, High, etc.), here it is included, but with a blank white tile separating FULTON and ST, rather than a blank black tile, like at Court Sq, N Blvd, Van Wyck, West 4, etc. The overall effect is not pretty, and though an attempt was made to get the font correct, the S in the new ST is nowhere near as nice as the original S, still visible in NASSAU on the Manhattan-bound wall. (After seeing the terrific new JAY tiles at Jay Street, I thought they finally had the font down pat, but apparently not.) |
