Those M-2s, and some M-4s, paint was never re-coated, in fact I believe those are still in their original paint!! That is what happens when they sit out constantly in the sun in places like the New Haven Line yards. I would think also washing in acid solution didn't help either. Some cars paint seem to hold up more than others. Also another factor to possibly consider.....the salty air from the Long Island Sound, which can also wreak havoc on paint!! Prime example.....look at the discoloration of the once Tuscan Red paint on the Hell Gate Bridge!! |
