No, the ferry fare was eliminated because the cost of installing and maintaining the fare collection equipment far exceeded the amount of fares that would be collected, as under the Metrocard plan, the ferry was to be a free transfer from the bus or SIR; they determined that most riders would be getting a free ride anyway.Metrocards CAN and DO do allow for multiple transfers; on Staten Island, you can transfer from a bus that crosses the SIR to SIR and then to a bus, or the subway at certain stations in Manhattan. There are other places in the city that also allow a second free transfer. |
