I agree with you that there should be more MVM's on Staten Island, even if they are not at the SIR stations due to the design and lack of weather proof structures at many of the stations. I'd love a couple of machines in the Staten Island Mall, or at CSI, and other places.

I'm sorry but it does make sense to delay the purchase of brand new train cars for Staten Island (not because it is Staten Island, etc), since as I understand it simply because the current whole set of trains have been recently renovated, and brought up to good working order. Why for example renovate a house and add 3 brand new rooms - if a year later the very same house if going to be demolished - it is a waste of money.

I do not get the sense that the current cars (although "old" when everybody it seems to like new stuff) are breaking down every day leaving riders stranded, or contributing to accidents, or other mishaps. I'm not saying that the situation needs to be that dire in order to buy new cars, either.

I understand the role of politicians who would want sign on to an effort to get new train cars now, versus the political payoff occurring five years into the future - when they themselves might not benefit via the voters. So yes, some of the rhetoric might be over the top - but they are trying to play the role that they are assigned - cheer-leader for new stuff.

Just my thoughts.
Mike
