SI residents are going to complain because nobody wants hand medowns. As far as seceding,go back to the War of Northern Aggression, & you'll find Richmond County was sympathetic to the Confederate cause.(I found it ironic when the first MCI delivered went to SI & was #1861).They pay taxes & want services for their taxes.Remember there are two kinds of people in this world:those who pay taxes & those who live off them. As far as the city councilmen mentioned,Jim Oddo has my respect. I don't know the other gentleman.Jim's dad retired from the TA after many years as a M/M switching in CIYD.Besides the fact he probably has better insight than most elected officials,I find myself in agreement with most of his stands.I hope he seeks & is elected to higher office as he runs out his term limit(s). All that said,I think cars that just got SMS'ed (2009/10) should be run to get back the investment put in them.At the same time, plans should start for their eventual replacement. If something different than what the subway orders is needed,an add-on order with another system should be looked at.Miami's cars were an add-on to Baltimore's order.I also think single & married pairs are most practical for SIRT.Four & five car units are not cost effective for a smaller system for many reasons. |
