There are two key requirements with CBTC. First, the train has to have an independent way of knowing its position. Second, there has to be a Digital Communication System (DCS) between the train and the control system. Both systems chosen by NYCT were never tried in any previous CBTC system. The DCS is no longer manufactured and therefore is not likely to be used in any future system. |
