A group of people with no association to any state that want to blow things up is, fundamentally, a criminal organisation, similar to the mafia. Wrong. Terrorists are not mobsters. Mobsters do not exist to carry on a struggle for a political purpose. And they do not engage in acts of violence against a state, unless said state is in Sicily. Perhaps we need a new Hague convention to define how we treat enemy combatants. But don't act as if they have any rights as of now. No Geneva/Hague convention protocol anywhere demands that terrorists not fighting for a state in a conventional war be treated in any particular manner. |
