My last ride consisted of a series of last rides. They were taken as part of my own personal excursion back on 4-1-2009:
I started off by taking the Q53 to Liberty Ave. I got on the A and rode 4357 from Rockaway Blvd to 80 Street. I was trying to get a particular photo of the R40 Slant at 80 Street but was unsuccessful in doing so. I then boarded 4248 and took it to 104 Street to get my last photos of it on the Lefferts Blvd stretch. I waited for that same train to return and rode 4320 back to Rockaway Blvd. After getting the photo below, I boarded 4178 and rode it to B44 Street.

As I got off at B44 Street, I got this photo:

Before boarding an R44, I got this photo:

That wound up to be the only R44 that I rode on that day. I got off at B67 Street, thus remembering that the Slant Set I had was going to return. While I was there, this came in:

That happened to be the 4th R40 Slant set in a row that headed to Far Rock. Minutes later, 4178 returned:

I took it back to Rockaway Blvd where I then caught the Q11-Q60 back home. Case and point, 4178 was the last R40 Slant set that I rode in service. As you saw, that day was cloudy, cold, damp and dreary. Much like the way it will be tomorrow minus the cold. If I am unable to get down to the A Line tomorrow, 4178 will forever be the last R40 Slant car that I rode in passenger service. These cars gave the NYC Subway Cars quite a unique look. I enjoyed riding and photographing them over the years and they will be surely missed.
If you want to see all of my R40 Slant PHOTOS, you can look HERE.
Many of the photos from that day are on there as well.
