Posted by Train Man Paul : Metro-North's Best Conductor FOR ALL 3 LINES!!! on Thu Jun 4 14:48:06 2009 Here's a little collection of an outing in New Jersey yesterday, visiting Bound Brook, where it was wall to wall trains, with a stopover in New Brunswick and Jersey Avenue!! Enjoy!! Oh, and by the way, The # 1 Conductor has a new toy he was trying out...a Panasonic LUMIX 10.1 MP Camera with 18X zoom.....time had come to go beyond the point-n-shoots!! Hope you all like!! Comes in three (3) parts....PART ONE: Bound Brook (CP BOUND BROOK)..... CP BOUND BROOK is hardly ever quiet, as evidenced by an immediate catch as soon as I arrived, CSAO Local MA01, with NS GP40-2 #3022 waiting to be crossed over from Track 2 to Track 1 at CP BOUND BROOK, as NS manifest 18G fast approaches, with SD70M 2624 and Conrail Quality (NS) C40-8W 8402 on Track 1 (and you thought Metro-North specialized in wrong railing!!)..... 3 minutes and over 100 cars later, bye bye 18G!! Off to Oak Island!! Now MA01 gets her shot!!..... You know what....this one is better seen on video, up close and personal!!.....CSAO MA01!! Note how sneaking up behind MA01 also on Track 2 and staying on Track 2 is CSX Q-300 (Greenwich Yard, Philadelphia PA to Oak Island Yard, Newark NJ)..... And now...CSX Q-300, with GE ES44AH GEVOs 898 and 916, and 101 cars, and another 3-4 awesome minutes of good mixed, and in a couple instances, stinky, manifest!! (EPIC medical and bio-waste dumpsters, all double stacked and stinkin' like high hell!!).... MA01 is in the lead, IN THE LEAD, but Q-300 is fast approaching, FAAAAAAST APPROACHING, gaining, and gaining, and gaining..... Now, with a very brief lull, we look around to check things out..... NJT Raritan Valley Line CP BROOK..... CSAO Bound Brook Yard..... Now, finally the RVL comes to life, Track 1 with westbound Train #5725 to High Bridge, with PL42AC #4006 with 6 single-level "mixed bag o' train" Comets, Comet V Cab #6018 on the east end..... Now coming east, with a nice full set of Multi-Levels, Train #5438 to Newark, Multi-Level Cab #7020 in the lead, with PL42AC #4010 pushing..... Bye bye 5438....DUNELLEN NEXT!!!..... More action setting up for the Lehigh, as CSX intermodal Q-190 (Greenwich Yard, Philadelphia PA to Kearny Yard, Kearny NJ) moves up to and holds at CP BOUND BROOK, while Track 2 shows signs of forthcoming activity, with NORAC Rule 285 "Approach" is well displayed, as an oncoming downpour moves in..... Coming hot off the Port Reading Secondary (PRS) , CSAO Work Train MA95 with CSX "Oak Pointer" SD40-2 #8815 dropping tie bales for PRS trackwork, and also picking up used ties, as a summer-like downpour sets in at Bound Brook..... And down comes the rain....guessin' Mother Nature told CSX it's time to wash them engines!!!!..... CSX Q-190 gets the nature wash at CP BOUND BROOK while awaiting our next southbound to go by off Track 2, CSX Q-409 (Selkirk Yard, Albany NY to Waycross, GA)..... #8815 and MA95 sit while MOW crews aboard the train pick up used ties off the PRS right of way..... CSX Q-409 comin' atcha, Track 2, leads by ex-CR C40-8W #7360 (former CR 6198) and C40-8 #7646..... Now, with Q-409 on its way south towards the Trenton Subdivision, here comes CSX Q-190, just a little tardy for a hotshot double stack intermodal, with GE ES44DC GEVOs 5351 and 5455..... Now with Q-409 and Q-190 out of the way, MA95 gets to proceed west thru CP BOUND BROOK to Manville Yard, coming west on a NORAC Rule 286 "Medium Approach" (steady red over flashing yellow) off the PRS..... After MA95 clears, the silence still does not return to CP BOUND BROOK, as CSAO Local MA02 bound for the PRS enters and holds at CP BOUND BROOK..... And now activity on the RVL, Train #5440 to Newark, with yet another Multi-Level consist, Cab #7003, with PL42AC #4022 west end pushing..... Westbound and slightly tardy is Train #5427 to Raritan, lead by PL42AC #4011, with Comet V Cab #6016 on the east end..... 4011 with a smoky departure..... Now, MA95 backs up eastward thru CP BOUND BROOK onto Track 1, where the 8815 will cut off from the gondolas of the work train, the crew secure the hand brakes, and chug off east on Track 2 after heading west after the cut, stopping west of CP BOUND BROOK to cross over to Track 2 and go on east, as MA02 heads east on the PRS, lead by NS GP38-2 #5637..... And after a resounding "CHOWW!!" signifying the engine has uncoupled, 8815 went west, cleared CP BOUND BROOK, for signal indication and line up onto Track 2, where the engine eases alongside the standing work consist, the conductor places handbrakes on each end, then to finish up our time at Bound Brook as radio and signals indicate the Lehigh is quieting up, we watch 8815 head off on east!! Thanks for joining in on our stay at Bound Brook!! Next, we will reconvene at Jersey Avenue for a few!! Hope you all enjoyed!! :-) |
