In Japan, Tokyu Sharyo manufactured PIII trucks under license from Budd. More than five private railways adopted them, some running on the subway lines. Some had success while some replaced them rather quickly. The following page has pictures of the various types mid-page. The page notes (in Japanese) that adapting them to the Japanese standard narrow gauge of 3'6" was part of the problem but I don't buy it since the narrow gauged Sagami Railway ordered them well into the nineties while the standard gauged Keihan didn't for long. The trucks of Tokyu Sharyo (fan site, not official) |
