I think by the time most of the R-10s received that paint scheme, the Rockaway Division had ceased to exist and was merged into the post Chrystie B-2 Division. Besides that, the Rockaway Division was created only for pick purposes to placate the BMT employees who were displaced by the closing of the Fulton St El. IRT crews were not originally supposed to be involved but they packed a union meeting on the creation of the new division and voted to have the TA include them along with BMT and IND crews. As a result the BMT didn't get as many jobs out of it as was originall intended since the Rockaway Div runs were allotted based on the number of crews on each respective division and since the IRT had the largest number of crews at the time IRT personnel were allotted the largest number of Rockaway runs. Thus the R-10s were never assigned to the Rockaway Division per se but remained with and were maintained and inspected by the IND Division. |
