"Operation Lucky Bag" is currently the subject of several court challenges, because merely picking up a wallet or bag is NOT a crime. IIRC, you have up to ten days to either turn it in or place it in a mailbox. As an alternative, if you discover identifying information in the wallet or bag, you can return it to the owner yourself.For a crime to take place, the cop has to actually see you pick up the wallet and remove cash or credit cards from it. |
